How the Sorfc came to be

After finishing the Blender Character Creation course, I knew for a fact that I wanted to bring this character to “life” - to 3D print it. Also, I was full on 3D printing heights, so I was 3D printing everything I could get my hands on.

I needed to figure out what the character was going to be doing. What poses would he strike? One thing for sure, I did not want to have another boring Orc with an axe. I wanted to have something contrary to the Orc stereotype.

I had a question: what is he holding? Could it be flowers or a guitar? Nah… Maybe next time.

To get some inspiration, I tried to mimic some battle poses in the mirror. And when I was going into the kung fu stance, I remembered that it is also a stance that is taught in surfing lessons.

Lightbulb moment: he’s surfing! The Orc is surfing! It is contrary, it is unexpected, and it might look fun! How many times have you seen an Orc on a surfboard? (I mean in fantasy art, not in real life.)

Simple math: Surf + Orc = Sorfc.

The final product

The final product is a 3D printed Orc on a surfboard. With a white spray paint finish, it looks like a toy (a collector’s item, if you ask me). The Sorfc is in a surfing stance, with his knees bent and arms outstretched for balance. The surfboard is designed to hold steady on a flat surface.
