Devlog #3: Post-processing the Sorfc
Fourteen pieces glued together, and plastic still melts under fine sanding.

In the previous Devlog #2: Slicing and printing the Sorfc I mentioned something about fighting the gravity, and slicing the model into 14 different pieces right?!
Well, it comes with a cost when you reach the post-processing stage. You have to do way more polish than anticipated. But as long as we learn something new, it is fine. Otherwise we could easily call ourselves idiots.
Also, it is another excuse to buy some new tools.

The thing with plastic
Have I mentioned new power tools? The big thing with plastic and new, powerful rotary tools is that, unlike wood, plastic doesn’t scrape away clean — it melts. High RPM means friction, friction means heat, and heat means melted plastic if you linger a second too long in one spot.

Word of advice
When sanding plastic, alternate between locations to avoid heating up the working surface. Once it is warm, move to another location. With the power tools, put in the smallest revs possible and forget everything that you have learned from wood sanding. Sanding plastic is a different craft.
