Devlog #3: A Front Panel That Breathes

The last thing standing between a box full of gadgets and an actual piece of furniture was the front panel. So I printed one.

There was one unresolved challenge with the “Temple” - it needed the front panel. From the very beginning of this project I was aiming for a result that would blend in with the rest of the room, without screaming “I am a server rack”.

The front panel was a must, but I didn’t want to go with the raw IKEA one, as there wouldn’t be any ventilation holes.

I knew that I would 3D print a custom front panel, but the design itself was still unclear. It had to be aesthetically pleasing, yet modular enough to allow for future changes.

I came across a system called “Multiboard” - a modular grid that had holes for ventilation, was rigid enough to work as a panel, and modular enough to let me swap the layout whenever I wanted.

I am not going into the details of the system as you can read about it on the Multibuild website, but I will say that it was a perfect fit for my needs.

It still looks like a techy piece of furniture, but I like it.
